Winter skin tips

It's that time of year again that we all wish that we hadn't had the leftover turkey or extra piece of Christmas pudding.  Not only does our body feel the strain but so does our skin.  Our skin can feel very lack lustre and dull during the festive season due to all the extra calories and alcohol we consume.   In the salon our clients tell us about the changes in their skin and often ask us what they can do to get back on track?

Well here are a few tips to keep your winter skin healthier:

When cleansing use tepid water only.

Heat may be appealing when it's chilly outside, but hot water contributes to dehydration.  Avoid really hot baths as the steam and heat can contribute to the symptoms of roseacea.

Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!

This is essential for your skins daily needs.  This will help to guard your skin against the elements and form a shield of  hydration.

Take time to cleanse properly.

Your skin continues to produce sebum and waste products even in these cold winter months so cleansing is always the first step to optimum skin function.  Cleanse face and body with a gentle botanicals-based liquid cleanser, pat dry (don’t rub), and apply moituriser from head to toe.

It's time to cut down on the alcohol!

Alcohol seriously dehydrates our skin so it is really important to cut back and top up on your water intake.  Not only will this help to flush out your system and internal organs it will also help with weight loss and rehydrate your skin.

Visit us for a skin health check up.

In the salon we carry out Face Mapping for FREE!  Our Dermalogica Skin Therapists will diagnose your skin’s concerns and prescribe a no-nonsense home care and treatment regimen to deliver your optimum skin health in your 14 unique zones.  You will receive a professional consultation that reveals your skin’s past, present and healthiest future.

I wish you health & happiness in 2013!

Love Nicola x
